Cotahuasi/Colca Cañon Expedtion

Cotahuasi & Colca Canyons: both two times as deep as the Grand Canyon are some of the most remote places on earth. The Cotahuasi is an incredible 6 days of class V white water, though just getting there is no easy task. After returning to Arequipa those who have not gotten enough can take on the challenge of 3 days of the even more challenging Colca Cañon.

Lovers of wild and magnificent nature should not miss a chance to get to know these Lunar landscapes. The canyon itself, with walls that reach at least 3535 meters above the level of the river on one side and more than 3ooo m on the other, is incomparable. From its crystalline waters, the walls often open to vistas of towering snow peaks. For boaters, the river is beyond compare, The technical difficulties at times are almost insurmountable and put even the most skillful to the test. They are compensated by the adventure and excitement of running a river devoid of all vegetation, accompanied by otters and black salmon in the waters and condors in the skies, surrounded by figures carved from erosion into the rocks and the colors of the walls with their intermixed geological strata.

This will be the first trip on this river using creature crafts, the boats will add a level of safety to this trip not posable with conventional boats.

This trip begins in Lima Peru were we enjoy Peruvian food and hospitality.

From there we travel by plan to Arequipa (50min flight) after enjoying this regions unique cuisine and briefly exploring the "White City" we take a 7 hour bus ride to Cotahuasi were we will stay at a comfortable inn & hot springs.

The next day is a dramatic 10 hour hike into the canyon followed by 6 days & 100 miles of rafting, Inca ruins, and mountain views of Coropuna 6425m and the Solimana 6093 m.

Once we reach the Pacific breeze and have relaxed in the nearest town (2-hour drive) you can decide if you are up for the Colca Cañon. Two more hours drive and we are back in Arequipa.
After a days rest in Arequipa the option to run the Colca Cañon will be available for 3-5 people. Due to the limited camping and danger of rock fall we will only spend 2 night in the canyon on the river all day each day.

Both rivers we will be using Creature Crafts the most advanced white water rafts in the world. These boats allow us to run these challenging rivers safer.

Pack Light anything you don't have you won't need.

Limitation :
Demanding - Class IV-V+ White Water. Very remote - Steep canyon walls restrict access. Previous white water experience recomended.
