The Full Story:
How many times a year can you paddle a river and do good for the
world at the same time? Where else can you treasure hunt for discarded
lawn chairs and end up with keys to a BMW, or that mis-matched pair of
flip-flops you’ve always wanted? And how many times can you remember
sitting in an eddy when a scuba diver pops up next to you clutching a
garbage bag plump with aluminum cans with a smile on his face?
We can’t think of too many experiences in life quite like this one…
A team of river running enthusiasts and conservationists are proud
to present our 5th Annual Down the River Clean Up on the Clackamas. We
invite river runners of all shapes and sizes to join us on a class II+
run on the Clackamas River to float + clean!
- Class II+ river runners with non-motorized watercraft invited to participate
- 75 spaces available in event rafts for those without a boat!
- All volunteers MUST REGISTER
- EVENT DETAILS
Last year, close to 300 volunteers (thanks to you!!) turned out to
clean three sections of the river all the way from Barton Park to the
mouth at Clackamette Park. We scoured 7,580 pounds of garbage from 14
miles of river way on the Lower Clackamas, but sadly, you can be sure
that the river will be trashed again this year.
We encourage you to bring friends, family members and co-workers to
help – let them experience the tragedy of misuse first hand and feel
the warm fuzzy feeling from making a difference. In addition to the
serotonin boost, volunteers will also be rewarded with a BBQ hosted by
Next Adventure and live music by Jim Brunberg (of Mississippi Studios),
Clif Bar Green Notes artist Garett Brennan, Matt Vrba, and Keep Your
Fork There's Pie.
